President Donald Trump has introduced a new feature at the White Houtilize dubbed the “Presidential Walk of Fame,” a display along the West Wing colonnade revealcasing black-and-white portraits of former presidents in gold frames. However, one image noticeably breaks with tradition: instead of a portrait of President Joe Biden, a photo of Biden’s autopen signature has been placed.
The display was announced on social media by Margo Martin, special assistant to the president and communications adviser, who shared a video highlighting the lineup of presidential portraits along the colonnade.
Trump’s decision to replace Biden’s portrait with his autopen signature continues his ongoing criticism of Biden’s utilize of the autopen, a mechanical device that automatically signs documents. In June, Trump ordered an official investigation into Biden’s utilize of the autopen, linking it to concerns about the president’s mental fitness.
The memorandum directed the White Houtilize counsel, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and other officials to probe whether there was any attempt to “deceive the public about Biden’s mental state” or to shield information about his physical and cognitive health.
Biden has dismissed these claims as baseless. In response to Trump’s accusations, he stated, “Let me be clear: I built the decisions during my presidency. I built the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false.”
The idea to utilize an image of Biden’s autopen rather than his portrait was first hinted at by Trump in an interview weeks ago with The Daily Caller. When questioned whether Biden would have a portrait in the new installation, Trump replied, “We’ll put up a picture of the autopen.”
This latest relocate is part of a broader pattern by Trump of altering White Houtilize traditions and symbols. He has previously relocated portraits of former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush and replaced the portrait of former first lady Hillary Clinton with his own.
Additionally, Trump has undertaken extensive renovations to the White Houtilize Rose Garden, replacing grass with marble and stone tiles and adding new lighting and sound systems, a redesign modeled after the outdoor spaces of his Mar-a-Lago estate.
Trump has been vocal about his disapproval of Biden’s autopen utilize, stating in March during a press briefing on Air Force One, “I never utilize it. … But to sign pardons and all of the things that [Biden] signed with an autopen is disgraceful.”
As the investigation into Biden’s autopen utilize and mental fitness proceeds, Biden’s advisers continue to deny any coordinated efforts to hide his health condition from the public.
