Married anchor duo exits Texas station amid company-wide layoffs

Married Texas TV anchors leaving KRIS 6 after layoffs

A married anchor duo whose on-air romance and personal battles built a loyal following across South Texas will sign off from KRIS 6 this month after corporate layoffs eliminated their positions.

Bryan and Michelle Hofmann, the morning team at the Corpus Christi station, confirmed their jobs fell victim to a wider round of cuts across the company. Their last broadcast lands on Aug. 18.

The couple addressed the departure in a social media post, acknowledging that “the rumors are true… well, SOME of them.” They pushed back on speculation that station owners planned to replace human talent with artificial intelligence or robotic anchors.

The layoffs swept through multiple newsrooms, affecting journalists and production staff beyond the Hofmanns, according to their statement.

Their story resonated far beyond the Coastal Bend. The pair met at a Nevada station, where Bryan worked as a traffic anchor and reporter while Michelle interned. Bryan later proposed during a viral on-air moment in January 2022. They married in 2024.

Viewers also followed Bryan’s medical journey. He lives with a rare genetic kidney disorder and has endured more than 50 surgeries. A doctor once warned he would not survive past age 20.

Michelle said working alongside her husband brought a sense of security during live broadcasts. “It’s actually easing and calming to know that somebody has my back at all times,” she explained.

The Hofmanns joined KRIS 6 in September 2022. Their mornings extend well beyond the anchor desk: after the 7 a.m. newscast, they often conduct interviews, emcee community events, or attend ribbon cuttings around town.

That community bond makes the exit painful. “Losing a job is never straightforward,” they wrote. “It can make you question your value, your abilities, and what comes next.”

They have not announced future plans.
