A private mail and print operator plans to eliminate 164 jobs while closing its San Antonio facility on the East Side.
Postal Center International Inc. began terminating workers at 4958 Stout Drive on Aug. 13, with separations expected to stretch through the end of September. The Florida-headquartered company cited “unforeseeable business circumstances” as the reason for shutting the location, according to an Aug. 11 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter filed with the Texas Workforce Commission.
Francine Salomons, vice president of human resources, signed the WARN notice. The company did not return requests for comment before publication.
The San Antonio operation debuted in 2021, when Postal Center International leased a 100,000-square-foot building for its mail and print division. Volume at the Texas site doubled the following year, per the company’s website. The business traces its roots to a Pompano Beach, Florida condominium in 1984 and has since grown to more than 500,000 square feet of operational space across multiple states. It provides printing, sorting and delivery services for commercial clients.
The affected workforce includes delivery drivers, barcode sweepers and management personnel. None of the laid-off employees belongs to a union or holds bumping rights, the WARN letter states.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio-New Braunfels metro area posted an unemployment rate of 4.7% in July, according to Texas Workforce Commission data. Those figures lack seasonal adjustment.
Postal Center International also runs facilities in Georgia, Indiana and Arizona. How the San Antonio closure might affect those remaining operations remains unclear.
