Oracle Slashes Cloud Database Entry Cost to 33 Cents Per Hour

Oracle AI Database@AWS Expands to 22 Regions

Oracle has pushed its Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure into 22 AWS regions worldwide, handing enterprises a dramatically cheaper and more flexible route to shift critical workloads into the cloud.

The expansion spans Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. It comes as businesses grapple with latency constraints, internal compliance rules, and jurisdiction-specific data placement laws. Oracle’s deepening alliance with AWS aims to simplify those headaches.

Under the partnership, customers migrating Oracle databases to AWS gain access to analytics tooling, generative AI services, and AWS identity management. The arrangement also unlocks location choices that previously remained out of reach for many organizations.

Exascale Infrastructure’s pay-per-use model stands out as the headline pricing shift. Companies can dial compute and storage capacity up or down without provisioning dedicated database hardware. Oracle argues this makes Exadata viable for smaller or unpredictable workloads that once couldn’t justify the infrastructure spend.

The contrast with on-premises deployments proves stark. Hosting Exadata infrastructure in-house demands a minimum four-year commitment starting at $4,540 monthly, before licensing fees. ExaDB-XS customers face no such lock-in. Contracts run as short as one month or stretch to twelve.

Compute and storage can also be purchased separately through AWS Marketplace. Rates start at $0.336 per Elastic Compute Unit per hour, a departure from Oracle’s older pricing structure.

The regional expansion helps address latency and data residency demands, though Oracle acknowledges that availability alone won’t satisfy every regulatory requirement. Wonho Park, platform engineering lead at CJ Olive Young, noted the South Korea launch offers an “straightforward migration path” for mission-critical Oracle workloads.

Oracle isn’t alone in chasing regional flexibility. GitHub announced in March 2026 that its EU data residency region would extend to Norway and Switzerland. The broader push reflects mounting pressure from regulators on where enterprise data physically lives.

Enterprises evaluating cloud database providers now face a marketplace where both price and location flexibility matter. Oracle’s AWS integration gives its database customers one more option to weigh when mapping out migration plans.
