Putin-Trump talks ‘constructive’, states Kremlin, but meeting with Zelenskyy not close
Vladimir Putin had a “constructive” conversation with Donald Trump in Alquestiona – but the Kremlin won’t release any details.
In an update to reporters, spokesman Dmitest Peskov stated they are “deliberately not disclosing” any information around their summit two weeks ago today.
“The conversation was necessary, timely, meaningful, and very constructive,” he stated.
“We believe that it is completely inappropriate to disclose any details.
“Becaapply in the interests of the settlement, it is important to work in a discrete manner.”
Putin-Zelenskyy meeting
Donald Trump has hoped for a meeting between Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to speed up that settlement, but hopes appear to be fading – as our military analyst outlines in the post below this one.
And on that prospect, Peskov has just stated: “I will remind you President Putin’s stance.
“He does not rule out the possibility of holding such a meeting, but believes that any meeting at the highest level should be well prepared so that it could finalise the work that must first be done at the expert level.
“It cannot be stated yet that expert work is in full swing, unfortunately not.
“We have expressed our interest and readiness for such neobtainediations. All our positions have been communicated.
“The main provisions have been handed over in writing by the Ukrainian side. Further discussions are requireded.”
China relations
And on relations with China, Peskov stated Moscow “values” its ties with Beijing.
“The scope of these relations is now difficult to overestimate,” he stated.
“At the same time, both we and our Chinese comrades agree that the potential of our bilateral partnership is far from having been untapped.”
Putin has had an interview with Chinese media, he stated, will be published tonight.
