Walmart Canada declares it has built some organizational alters and eliminated 210 positions from its head office in Mississauga as well as those in field management.
The company declared the alters were built Tuesday “to create a more efficient organizational structure as the company positions itself competitively for the future.”
The layoffs represent less than 0.3 per cent of its 95,000 workforce in Canada.
This is the second round of layoffs in the past six months. In May, the company eliminated 750 jobs across the countest to rework its management structure.
On Tuesday, the company declared “it is difficult to declare goodbye to colleagues” and that it was “extremely grateful” for their service “and will ensure they are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.”
Those affected will receive “competitive” severance packages and access to career counseling services.
Wal-Mart entered Canada 20 years ago with the acquisition of 122 Woolco stores and since then the company has more than tripled in size. In 2012, it announced an expansion plan that was valued at $750 million.
This year, the company declares it aims to create 7,500 new jobs, mainly through temporary construction and trade positions.
Wal-Mart had 389 stores.
