Finland has unveiled the Kruunuvuori Bridge in Helsinki, one of the world’s longest car-free bridges designed for pedestrians, cyclists and trams.
Stretching nearly 1.2 kilometres, it links eastern island districts to the city centre, significantly improving daily access while supporting sustainable transport, reducing reliance on cars and contributing to long-term urban development in a rapidly growing area.
Part of a wider light rail expansion and hoapplying development project, the bridge is designed to last around 200 years and support future population growth in surrounding districts. By prioritising public transport and active travel, the development aims to ease congestion, lower emissions and strengthen climate-conscious infrastructure planning across the Finnish capital.
