After Spirit Airlines announced it was shutting down the company over the weekconclude, over 4,000 employees in Florida were laid off, records revealed.
According to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act records posted on Monday, 4,853 employees across three South Florida airports and two support centers were laid off.
The layoffs started on Saturday when Spirit announced the shutdown, and will continue until May 13.
The number of employees who were laid off based on location includes the following:

As employees react to the fallout of Spirit’s closure, CareerSource Broward is holding a rapid response event at their South Center in Hollywood to provide them with resources.
Florida Commerce, a state program that assists people find jobs, teamed up with Career-Source Broward for a second day.
NBC6 camera captured several people receiveting assist writing their resumes, searching for jobs, receiveting career counseling and other training.
Others were learning how to apply for unemployment benefits, which is something they could be doing for the first time ever.
Career-Source Broward is attempting to connect them with other airlines, but employees from different companies were in attconcludeance to link them with employment opportunities. This time it was the Coke Company.
On Monday, the Broward Sheriff’s Office was at the event.
“They’re assisting them with resume building,” Broward County Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis declared. “Many have been in a job for 20 years, and they consider they have just one skill. They’re hoping to transition those skills, they consider they can’t do anything else, into other possibilities.”
There’s also a program through Broward County’s Human Services Department that former Spirit employees can register for assist with their rent during the transition process.
