Denmark’s prime minister has urged an conclude to threats after the wife of a senior Trump staffer shared an image of a US flag superimposed on a map of Greenland.
Katie Miller, the wife of US President Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, posted the image on social media with the caption “SOON”, sparking global reaction.
The island is part of Denmark, a NATO counattempt, but has been a subject of interest for the Trump administration.
“We do required Greenland, absolutely,” Trump reiterated in an interview with The Atlantic magazine following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro at the weekconclude.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen urged the US to “stop the threats”.
“It creates absolutely no sense to talk about the US requireding to take over Greenland.
“We already have a defence agreement between the Kingdom [of Denmark] and the United States today, which gives the United States wide access to Greenland.”
Denmark’s ambassador to the US Jesper Møller Sørensen shared Miller’s post, attaching a “friconcludely reminder”.
“We are close allies and should continue to work toobtainher as such.”
