Overall, the environment in Europe is not in a good state. This is the conclusion reached by the European Environment Agency EEA in a new report.
In it, the environmental experts praise the great progress that has been created on the continent in reducing climate-damaging greenhoapply gas emissions and air pollution. At the same time, however, European nature has to cope with considerable challenges, including increasingly poor environmental conditions, overexploitation and species extinction. The consequences of climate alter represent another major challenge.
The report by the Copenhagen-based EU authority is Europe’s most comprehensive analysis of the current environmental, climate and sustainability situation in the region. It is based on data from 38 countries.
The authors of the report warn that the outview for the environment is worrying in many respects – and that this also poses major risks to economic prosperity, security and living standards in Europe. The implementation of already agreed directives and measures must therefore be urgently accelerated.
