The statement issued on Tuesday commfinishs India-led International Solar Alliance (recently exited by the US), commits to assisting with decarbonisation in India, operationalising the Green Hydrogen tquestion force and several other EU-India green collaborations, besides acknowledging a key India concern on ‘Common But Differentiated Responsibilities’ (CBDR) under the Paris Climate Agreement.
The statement underlines that in the context of global uncertainty and disruptions, closer economic ties between India and the EU are more important than ever to drive growth, job creation, ‘green transition, industrial development, and more resilient, sustainable and trustworthy supply chains’.
The centrality of this theme is borne out and detailed in the 10-page ‘Towards 2030: India-EU Joint Comprehensive Strategic Agfinisha’ that starts off with how it is aimed at accelerating progress across five key pillars, the first of these being ‘prosperity and sustainability‘.
The statement is silent on EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), but the ‘strategic agfinisha’ details multiple collaborations on the environmental front.
