Orange Belgium now sells an AI-backed cybersecurity package built specifically for companies with 30 or fewer workers, a segment increasingly caught in the crosshairs of global ransomware campaigns.
The operator’s Cyber Protection offer pairs automated threat identification with round-the-clock oversight from Orange Cyberdefense analysts. Small firms gain security capabilities that would typically demand in-house specialists they cannot afford to hire.
The rollout follows sobering data from Orange showing cyber-extortion incidents jumped 44.5 percent worldwide in 2025. Small and medium-sized organizations accounted for roughly two-thirds of those targeted.
Belgium alone records about 100 ransomware attacks annually. Recovery drags on well past containment: affected companies see their IT systems offline for an average of 21 days, according to the operator’s research.
Beyond threat mitigation, Cyber Protection assists smaller enterprises with mounting compliance burdens. The service accelerates detection and response to potential data breaches under GDPR while maintaining documentation trails useful for investigations or regulatory filings. It also positions firms to satisfy NIS2 Directive obligations.
Werner De Laet, Chief Enterprise Officer at Orange Belgium, framed the problem plainly. A single compromised computer can halt daily operations, leak sensitive data, or sever a company from the tools it needs to serve clients, he said. Yet most entrepreneurs lack a dedicated cybersecurity professional on payroll.
The goal, De Laet explained, involves delivering continuous protection that keeps owners informed and summons expert intervention when crises emerge. Orange aims to remove the expectation that business operators become security specialists themselves.
As ransomware pressure mounts on smaller targets, managed security services could shift from enterprise luxury to operational necessity for Belgium’s compact business sector.
