Amazon has locked in a path to own a slice of Swiss logistics powerhouse Kühne+Nagel, taking an option on existing shares as part of a sweeping long-term partnership.
The move signals deepening ties between the e-commerce titan and the freight forwarder at a moment of leadership upheaval. Klaus-Michael Kühne, the company’s dominant shareholder, recently transferred roughly 59% of voting rights to his foundation, the Kühne-Stiftung.
Under the arrangement, Amazon can purchase Kühne+Nagel shares using cash or its own stock. The exact amount hinges on commercial milestones and delivery of specific services across a seven-year window, according to a Monday statement from the Swiss firm.
The share option forms one component of what Kühne+Nagel described as a comprehensive collaboration. Specific financial terms and volume targets remain undisclosed.
The deal comes as global supply chains face persistent pressure. Logistics providers have scrambled to secure technology partners while e-commerce giants push deeper into fulfillment and freight networks.
Amazon gets a potential equity stake in one of the world’s largest forwarders. Kühne+Nagel gains a marquee client and strategic backer with unmatched digital infrastructure.
Analysts will watch whether Amazon exercises the option early or gradually accumulates shares over the seven-year period. The partnership could reshape competitive dynamics across the shipping and warehousing sector.
