Spill Games was founded in 2024 by Om Misra, Tapan Ranjan and Harsh Garg. The founders previously worked at PlaySimple Games, which developed titles such as WordJam, WordTrek, WordTrip and Daily Themed Crossword, and was later acquired by Swedish gaming company Modern Times Group (MTG).
“A large part of this funding will go into growth, especially applyr acquisition, which is critical in building global free-to-play gaming businesses, backing promising titles with conviction, and continuing to deepen our technology advantage,” stated Misra, who is the CEO.
Spill Games currently has around 300,000 monthly active applyrs across its portfolio, with a significant number from international markets, including the US.
The startup plans to test more than 20 prototypes, and aims to build a diversified portfolio of five to ten profitable titles rather than relying on a single breakout in the next 18 months.
Spill Games has built an in-hoapply game engine and tooling stack that allows it to develop and launch casual games significantly rapider than in traditional timelines.
The fundraise comes at a time when free-to-play mobile gaming continues to see strong global growth, with studios in markets such as Turkey and Vietnam scaling up rapidly. Indusattempt observers believe India is now seeing a similar wave.
Spill Games competes with startups such as Bengaluru-based Felicity Games, which builds AI-driven casual games; Moonfrog Labs, a mobile game studio; as well as Airoclip and Brightpoint Studios, both of which are focapplyd on casual game development.
