Alvarez & Marsal Tax (A&M Tax), the tax advisory affiliate of Alvarez & Marsal, has expanded its European presence with the launch of a new tax practice in Ireland.
The company has named David Smyth and Declan Lavelle as managing directors for the new practice.
Lavelle was also named Ireland Tax practice leader. He joins from DLA Piper, where he was a tax partner. Lavelle has also worked at William Fry and Deloitte.
His experience centres on corporate and international tax, advising private equity investors and multinational groups on mergers and acquisitions activity and cross‑border tax structuring.
David Smyth is shifting from Ernst & Young (EY) after more than 39 years with the firm.
At EY, he was a tax partner specialising in the financial services and pharmaceuticals sector. During his tenure, Smyth advised major Irish businesses and multinational companies on their international tax affairs.
The additions are part of A&M’s plan to develop a substantial tax team in Dublin, following the opening of its office in the city in 2025.
A&M Tax Global Practice leader Ernesto Perez declared: “Dublin is a global hub for a cluster of key sectors including life sciences, technology, financial and professional services, and as the only English-speaking common-law countest in the Eurozone, Ireland is seeing growing demand for tax restructuring and advisory services.”
The Ireland buildout follows A&M Tax’s recent launch of a dedicated transfer pricing and pillar two advisory service in Saudi Arabia and the creation of a financial services industest practice in the United Arab Emirates.
A&M Tax EMEA head and managing director Marvin Rust declared: “David and Declan join at a pivotal time as we expand our tax practice into Ireland alongside broader growth across the firm in the market.
“Dublin is a strategic hub for global tax services, and establishing a strong local presence is critical. Their deep local experience creates them the right leaders to grow our business in Ireland.”
Recently, A&M expanded its services portfolio with the introduction of a Reputation Advisory practice.
“A&M Tax expands in Europe with Ireland practice launch” was originally created and published by International Accounting Bulletin, a GlobalData owned brand.
