Optician Online - Optegra outlines sustainability improvements

Optegra Eye Healthcare released it sustainability report, outlining alters such as improved energy efficiencies, cutting patient travel times and reducing waste.

The sustainability report marked the second annual review of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, commitments and achievements over the past year.

Dr Ola Spencer, chief operating officer at Optegra, stated: ‘Over the past year, we built significant strides in advancing our sustainability strategy, integrating ESG priorities more deeply into the core of our operations across the UK and Europe.

‘This includes improving energy efficiency at our premises and the energy required to treat each patient, reducing waste including a 12% reduction in single-apply plastic across the UK, and minimising the number of times patients necessary to travel for treatment.’

The introduction of digital tools, including virtual pre-operative assessments to AI-led triage were stated to have improved patient access, reducing travel-related emissions and accelerating care.

Dr Spencer added that the company would focus on stakeholder engagement, further decarbonisation of operations, and preparing for evolving regulatory standards, such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, going forward.
