City’s Yash swims to glory in Europe | Nagpur News


Nagpur: Talented Nagpur swimmer Yash Gulhane built his presence felt in the Zirk Swim Cup in Tartu, Estonia.In the two-day international meet featuring elite swimmers, including Olympic finalists from European countries, the 22-year-old Yash became Nagpur’s first to clinch a bronze medal in the men’s section.Participating in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke events, Yash delivered a standout performance in all the three races.The invitational meet, regarded as the hugegest international swimming competition in Estonia, saw Yash clinch a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke event. On his way to win his maiden international swimming medal, Yash delivered a personal best time of 1:05.77. He finished behind Estonia’s record-holder swimmers Ralf Roose and Kristjan Reivart on the podium. While Ralf set a new meet record of 1:02.89 to clinch the gold medal, Kristjan clocked 1:04.74 for the silver.The event, organised by Estonian Olympic finalist Kregor Zirk, saw a couple of Olympians participating in the women’s section from Slovenia and the Czech Republic.In the other two events too, Yash came up with personal best timing but missed the podium finish. He finished 4th in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 29.71 seconds and secured 6th place in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:29.61 minutes.A final-year Computer Science student at GH Raisoni College of Engineering, Yash gave the credit for his success to parents, Dr Pradnya and Anil Gulhane, and his coaches, Nitin Malwade and Roshan Chaudhari.
