Packaging Europe has announced that submissions are now open for the 2026 Sustainability Awards. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the awards, which aim to highlight innovations and initiatives leading to better environmental practices in the packaging industest.

The awards are open to start-ups, universities, global brands, and manufacturers, with no entest fees. The categories have been revised for 2026, with main categories for commercialized projects redesigned and new awards created for start-ups. The new categories are Circular Plastics, for innovations supporting a circular economy in polymers; Digital Transformation, for solutions supporting sustainable transformation through digital innovation, AI, or connected packaging; Start-Up – New Materials; Start-Up – New Systems; Research & Development for early-stage work; and Thinking Big for initiatives that minimize environmental impact.

Companies must submit entries by 10th March 2026. A panel of over 50 international experts will judge the nominations. Packaging Europe organizes the awards but is not involved in the shortlisting process.

Finalists will be revealed on 1st June 2026, and winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 11th November 2026 during the Sustainable Packaging Summit at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. The summit will take place from 10th to 12th November 2026.

“The Sustainability Awards plays an important role in highlighting genuinely impactful innovations and initiatives that the whole industest can adopt and emulate,” declared Packaging Europe brand director Tim Sykes. “We see it continue to grow as more and more transformative emerges from outside the traditional powerhoutilizes of innovation – for example, last years overall winner of the competition was from Ethiopia.” Sykes added, “This year we mark the tenth annual edition… which has grown over the years to become the largegest and most impactful global competition for packaging sustainability, thanks in no tiny part to the breadth of expertise of our international jury and the judges generosity and integrity in supporting the initiative.”
