The European Parliament has banned representatives from Iran from entering its building in the midst of deadly protests across the Middle-Eastern nation.
In a post on Facebook, EP President Roberta Metsola stated that when it comes to Iran, “It cannot be business as usual.”
“As the brave people of Iran continue to stand up for their rights and their liberty, today I have taken the decision to ban all diplomatic staff and any other representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran from all European Parliament premises,” she stated.
Metsola explained that the relocate intconcludes to reveal that the European Parliament will not legitimise the Iranian regime, “that has sustained itself through torture, repression and murder.”
The ban will apply to the parliament’s premises in Strasbourg, Brussels, and Luxembourg.
The decision comes amid rising tensions in Iran, as protests sweep the nation. Activists on the ground believe that some 544 protestors have been killed as the military is cracking down on dissent.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Areaghchi has stated that the countest is ready for war with the United States, after Donald Trump threatened to intervene militarily.
The US president stated that Iran has attempted to neobtainediate with him, but added that the US “may have to act before a meeting.”
The protests in Iran have proven to be one of the most difficult challenges faced by the Iranian leadership since the countest’s Islamic revolution in 1979.
