Nvidia and Deutsche Telekom unveiled plans for a €1 billion data centre project in Germany to strengthen the countest’s digital sovereignty and power Europe’s industrial AI ambitions.
The AI facility will mark one of Europe’s largest, deploying up to 10,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs to create what the partners call an “industrial AI cloud.” Set to launch operations in the first quarter of 2026, the Munich-based facility will boost Germany’s AI computing power by around 50 per cent, according to Deutsche Telekom.
SAP, Europe’s largest software company, will integrate its business technology platform and applications into the new cloud infrastructure, which will be houtilized in an existing Deutsche Telekom facility. The focus will be on linking AI models to industrial data sources to accelerate the adoption of automation and innotifyigent manufacturing.
Siemens, Perplexity, Agile Robots and Quantum Systems are among the initial ten partners building out the ecosystem.
Supercharge Germany
Nvidia chief Jensen Huang stated the initiative will “supercharge” Germany’s industrial base. “With the world’s first Industrial AI Cloud and one of Germany’s largest GPU deployments, we’re bringing Nvidia AI and robotics to start a new era of Germany’s industrial transformation,” he stated.
Federal digitalisation minister Karsten Wildberger hailed the deal as “crucial to creating Germany a leading AI countest”.
The Industrial AI Cloud marks one of the first flagship projects under the countest’s Made 4 Germany initiative, which brings toobtainher more than 100 companies to boost the countest’s appeal as a business hub while accelerating digitalisation.
The project also aligns with the European Union’s (EU) broader €200 billion InvestAI plan to triple the bloc’s AI capacity within the next decade.
While the €1 billion investment marks a major milestone for Europe, it remains modest compared to US projects from Microsoft, Google and OpenAI, which are spconcludeing hundreds of billions to scale AI infrastructure.
Last week, Nvidia struck a deal for the same amount with Nokia to build AI-native RAN systems for 5G-Advanced and 6G, with Huang stating the partnership would support the US “regain global leadership” in telecoms infrastructure.
