Europe’s healthcare system is still built around treating illness after symptoms appear. However, that approach comes at a cost. Most deaths on the continent are linked to chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and metabolic disorders, even though early warning signs often display up in routine blood tests years in advance.
What’s missing is an straightforward, structured way for people to understand those signals early and act on them. Here’s where Paris-based startup Lucis believes it has the answer.
The French startup, which is democratising access to preventive health testing, has raised $8.5M in seed funding to create regular health testing and early disease prevention more accessible across Europe. The round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from Y Combinator, Kima Ventures, Motier Ventures, Circle.Co, and North South Ventures.
What is Lucis building?
Founded in 2025 by Maxime Berthelot, Baptiste Debever, and Max Guerois, Lucis offers preventive health check-ups carried out in certified medical laboratories.
“Our mission is to empower individuals to take ownership of their health by giving them a clear view of key indicators before symptoms even appear, and providing practical guidance to improve their well-being, without replacing physicians,” stated Maxime Berthelot, CEO and co-founder of Lucis.
Instead of handing utilizers long, technical blood test reports, the platform translates results into a clear, straightforward-to-read dashboard. Tests are reviewed by a medical team, with AI utilized to highlight priority signals and track alters over time.
“At a time when more and more Europeans are seeing to take control of their health and feel better overall, this funding round will allow us to democratise access to disease prevention by connecting analyses conducted in certified laboratories, medical expertise, and a simple, utilizer-frifinishly platform,” adds Berthelot.
Instead of PDFs, members receive practical guidance focutilized on five areas: nutrition, supplements, physical activity, sleep and recovery, and mental health. Lucis does not replace doctors or provide diagnoses. It is designed to support individuals understand their health better and take informed preventive steps.
By relying on certified laboratories, a medical team, and quantified data tracked over time, Lucis aims to develop a structured and accessible approach to health that aligns with public health policies rather than a “gadreceive” or self-diagnosis mindset.
Direct competitors like Zoī offer similar check-ups in France but lack Lucis’s AI-driven evolution tracking and five-pillar personalisation.
What’s next?
Lucis operates in France, the UK, Ireland, and Portugal, with over 500,000 tests conducted, and plans accelerated rollout to new European markets.
The funding will support the French company expand further across Europe, strengthen its network of partner laboratories and physicians, and continue developing its AI platform.
