Senator Mitch McConnell, a Republican who was previously the majority leader, will not seek re-election as he wraps up his seventh term. Kentucky, which President Trump won by 30 percentage points in 2024, is widely viewed as safely Republican, but the state’s current governor, Andy Beshear, is a Democrat who won his race in 2023 by five percentage points. Candidates in the Republican primary to replace McConnell include Representative Andy Barr; Nate Morris, a wealthy executive; and Daniel Cameron, a former state attorney general and protégé of Mr. McConnell’s. All three candidates are aligned with Trump, who has not weighed in on the race.
