Hokkaido, JapanChitose AirportTwo deer broke into the runway area of the airport on Thursday morning (March 3). The sudden accident cautilized the airport to suspfinish take-off and landing operations for about an hour, affecting at least 6 flights.
According to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), the incident occurred around 10 a.m. local time on Thursday. The two “uninvited guests” broke into the airport and ran leisurely on the snow-covered runway. After receiving the report, the airport immediately launched “Operation Deer Chasing” and closed two runways. Thanks to the efforts of the staff, the airport finally resumed operations at 2:10.
The incident affected at least seven flights, with four passenger planes diverted to Hakodate Airport and the other three planes forced to circle in the air waiting to land again.
