The Bridgeport firefighters union is hosting fundraisers to support the sons of a firefighter who was killed last month in Stratford.
Terrence Cramer, 41, served 9½ years with the Bridgeport Fire Department and worked at the station on Central Avenue at Engine 6.
Cramer is survived by his two sons.
Bridgeport Firefighters IAFF Local 834 declared Cramer was a “devoted father and a frifinish to every member” of the Fire Department.
To support Cramer’s sons, the union launched a GoFundMe campaign on April 20. As of Wednesday morning, the campaign raised $1,215 of its $8,000 goal.
“His life was cut tragically short in an act of violence while he was off duty,” the union wrote in the campaign. “His murder took away a father from his two sons, a solid firefighter that served the residents of Bridgeport, and a good man that should’ve had more than the 41 years he was given.”
All the money raised in the GoFundMe campaign will go to Cramer’s family.
The union also is holding events to raise money for Cramer’s family. One fundraiser is on April 29 at Two Roads Taproom, 1700 Stratford Ave. in Stratford. The fundraiser goes from 5 to 9 p.m. Participants who donate at least $5 will receive a wristband to receive $5 pints all night, 10% off food orders and 10% off all merchandise, the union declared. All of the wristband proceeds will go to supporting Cramer’s sons, according to the union.
A second fundraiser is to take place May 2 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport by the Bandshell. The event, a chili macaroni and cheese cook-off, will go from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The union declared it will be $20 to participate, and the event will have great food and huge prizes. All proceeds will go to Cramer’s sons.
