Tesla Rebrands Full Self-Driving Amid Europe Scrutiny, Musk Claims Medal

This Week in TSLA: FSD's Europe Rebrand, Elon Musk Receives Medal From Trump and More - Tesla (NASDAQ:TSL

Tesla made waves this week by scrapping its “Full Self-Driving” label across European markets, rebranding the technology as “Tesla Assisted Driving” after German regulators warned the original name misled consumers about the system’s actual capabilities.

The move signals growing regulatory pressure on autonomous driving claims in Europe. Drivers must still remain attentive behind the wheel, yet the previous branding suggested otherwise. German officials pushed back hard, and Tesla responded quietly by updating its websites across the continent.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Tesla has been lobbying European authorities to accelerate approval for its FSD system. The rebrand appears designed to smooth that path while addressing regulatory concerns head-on.

Across the Atlantic, Elon Musk collected the National Medal of Science at a White House ceremony on Thursday. President Donald Trump presented the honor alongside medals for Alphabet co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and AMD CEO Lisa Su.

Delivery numbers also dominated headlines. Tesla shipped 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, sailing past analyst forecasts of roughly 462,000 units. But investor Gary Black of The Future Fund LLC attributed the beat to energy shocks from the Iran conflict, not growing demand for FSD.

Cybertruck sales told a different story. Musk originally targeted 250,000 annual units for the angular electric pickup. Fresh data shows deliveries reached only about 13% of that goal, underscoring how far the vehicle has fallen from its founder’s ambitions.

As Tesla navigates regulatory hurdles in Europe and mixed signals across its product lineup, the coming quarters will test whether rebranding and political goodwill can offset stubborn demand challenges.
