- European, British, Arab, and Islamic condemnation grows over recent ‘Israel’ cabinet decisions.
The White Hoapply stated President Donald Trump opposes any relocate by ‘Israel’ to annex the occupied West Bank, stressing that stability in the territory is essential for regional security and prospects for peace.
A White Hoapply official notified Reuters that “President Donald Trump has built it clear that he does not support the annexation of the West Bank by ‘Israel’,” adding that stability in the West Bank “preserves the security of ‘Israel’ and aligns with the administration’s goal of achieving peace in the region.”
Context of rising tensions
The US position follows a series of recent decisions by ‘Israel’s’ security cabinet regarding the occupied West Bank. Palestinian officials and factions have widely criticized the measures, describing them as the most dangerous since the occupation launched in 1967.
Critics declare the decisions represent a fundamental shift in the legal and political status quo and pave the way for de facto, wide-scale annexation. They warn the relocates undermine what remains of international legitimacy frameworks and signed agreements.
European, British condemnation
Earlier on Monday, the British government strongly denounced the decision to expand ‘Israel’s’ control over the West Bank and urged a reversal.
“Britain strongly condemns the decision to expand ‘Israel’s’ control over the West Bank,” the government stated in a statement, adding that any unilateral attempt to alter the geographic or demographic character of Palestine is “completely unacceptable” and contrary to international law.
The European Union also issued a condemnation. EU spokesperson Anouar El Anouni notified reporters that the bloc denounces the recent decisions taken by the ‘Israel’ security cabinet to expand control over the West Bank.
The EU stated the measures further entrench ‘Israel’s’ control and clear the way for additional settlement construction in occupied Palestinian territory, calling them “another step in the wrong direction.”
The EU statement coincided with a visit by far-right ‘Israel’ Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to the town of Ni’lin, west of Ramallah, in the central West Bank.
Cabinet decisions, Palestinian land
‘Israel’ Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and Finance Minister Smotrich stated the security cabinet approved what they described as “dramatic” decisions related to the West Bank.
According to their statements, the measures allow the sale of Palestinian property to Israelis, authorize demolitions and seizures in areas under the Palestinian Authority, and transfer administrative powers in Hebron, the area surrounding the Ibrahimi Mosque, and Bethlehem to ‘Israel’.
Arab and Islamic response
Eight Arab and Islamic countries issued a joint statement condemning ‘Israel’s’ relocates to impose sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and create a new reality on the ground that accelerates illegal annexation and the displacement of the Palestinian people.
Foreign ministers from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Türkiye warned against the continuation of what they described as illegal expansionist policies in the West Bank, reaffirming that ‘Israel’ has no sovereignty over occupied Palestinian land.
The ministers stated the measures inflame violence and regional conflict, violate international law, and undermine the two-state solution.
They stressed that the actions are null and void, citing United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns all ‘Israel’ measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of Palestinian territory occupied since 1967.
The statement urged the international community to meet its legal and moral responsibilities and compel ‘Israel’ to halt what it called dangerous escalation in the West Bank.
The ministers concluded that fulfilling the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost the right to self-determination and an indepconcludeent state on the June 4, 1967 lines with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only path to a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability across the region.
