OlloBot has unveiled a companion robot at IFA Berlin that prioritizes long-term emotional bonding over simple task execution. The Hong Kong startup wants its OlloNi SS1 to become a persistent presence in users’ lives, not just a voice assistant with a plastic shell.
Companion robotics has shifted dramatically in recent years. Where earlier devices focused on reminders, smart home controls, or utilitarian chores, a new wave of products aims squarely at emotional connection. Loneliness, aging populations, and the normalization of AI relationships have created a market for machines that remember, adapt, and feel present.
The OlloNi SS1 runs on three proprietary systems. EmpathCore processes emotional intelligence cues from user interactions and environmental context. Affinilog manages interaction patterns that evolve over time. The Memory Heart Module stores personal history so conversations and behaviors build on what came before. Together, OlloBot claims these technologies allow the robot to develop unique, individualized relationships with each user.
“The key question is not only what robots can do, but what relationships they can build,” founder Lyn Fang said in the announcement.
The company positions OlloNi SS1 as part of an emerging “Cyber Pet” category. It blends AI software with a physical, embodied device that interacts with the real world while adapting to user preferences through continued use. This marks a departure from home assistant robots built around commands and queries.
Meanwhile, OlloBot has quietly delayed its Kickstarter campaign originally scheduled for late August. The company cited product-readiness issues along with shifting regulatory and market conditions. No new crowdfunding date has been announced.
The robot remains on display at OlloBot’s IFA Berlin booth through September 8. Additional updates are expected in the coming months as the company, part of BizConf Technology Co., Ltd., works toward a commercial launch.
