Professional Recycle, a company based in Târgu Mureș that specializes in recycling PET packaging waste, has announced a new phase of expansion and operational development that will roughly triple the production facility’s processing capacity. By the conclude of 2026, the company aims to reach a capacity of approximately 90,000 tons per year, thereby becoming the production facility with the largest capacity for recycling and processing PET packaging waste in Europe.
This new phase of development marks an important step for the Romanian recycling industest and strengthens Romania’s position on the European circular economy map. At the same time, Târgu Mureș is emerging as one of the most important regional centers for the processing and recovery of PET materials, through the development of a modern and competitive industrial infrastructure.
As part of the ongoing expansion plan, the Professional Recycle plant was visited late last week by Irineu Darău, Romania’s Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, and by Adrian Giurgiu, Chair of the Chamber of Deputies’ Committee on the Environment and Ecological Balance. The official visit aimed to assess the impact of this project on industrial competitiveness, sustainable development, and the strengthening of local value chains.

During my visit to Professional Recycle, I was pleased to see how such initiatives demonstrate that Romania has the capacity to develop modern, competitive, and future-oriented industrial investments at the European level. The circular economy can become an important driver of economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness,” stated Irineu Darău, Minister of Economy.
“Expanding our processing capacity marks a new stage in Professional Recycle’s evolution and continues a journey built on constant investment in technology, in-houtilize research, and industrial development. We have demonstrated that it is possible to design, manufacture, and scale technology in Romania that is competitive at the European level, and through this new development, we are strengthening our role as a strategic supplier of secondary raw materials for essential industries. “Our goal remains to actively contribute to building a modern, efficient, and responsible circular economy,” emphasized Mihail Moloiu, CEO of Professional Recycle.
Professional Recycle is also the founder of the PET Recycling Team, an industrial joint venture developed alongside ALPLA, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of plastic packaging and products, and UPT—United Polymer Trading, one of the largest international distributors of plastics. This association positions the Romanian company at the center of a strategic partnership with two global industest players.
PET Recycling Team, which has been operating in Târgu Mureș since 2023, processes PET flakes obtained from recycling and transforms them into rPET pellets that comply with food safety standards, which are then utilized in the production of new packaging. Under this partnership, Professional Recycle supplies PET flakes—the raw material obtained from recycling PET waste—ALPLA contributes international industrial and technological expertise, and United Polymer Trading (UPT) provides access to an extensive distribution network for plastics and recycled materials.
Through its current development projects, continuous investments in technology, research, and innovation, as well as its integration into a complete industrial chain, Professional Recycle is consolidating its status as a regional leader and contributing to Romania’s positioning as a strategic European hub for recycling and sustainable production.
