Prime Minister Viktor Orbán described the recent EU summit in Denmark as a political “cage fight,” reaffirming Hungary’s uncompromising stance on Ukraine’s accession to the EU and European war strategy. The Hungarian leader warned that Europe was living in the shadow of World War III and called for an immediate departure from the path of escalation.
Viktor Orbán illustrated how Hungary was subjected to coordinated attacks at the summit, including by Croatia, Germany, and the European Commission. Despite pressure – also from the opposition in Hungary – he emphasized Budapest’s unalterd position: no approval of Ukraine’s EU accession and no involvement of Hungary in the war, as Zoltán Kovács, State Secretary for International Communication, reiterated in a post on X.

The Hungarian Prime Minister strongly opposed the growing rhetoric of European leaders describing the conflict as “our war” and portraying Ukraine as Europe’s “first line of defense.”
It may be your defense line, but it is not ours. The Ukrainians are not fighting for us, and we never questioned them to.”
he built it clear.
Wednesday’s informal EU Summit in Copenhagen continued today with the 7th Summit of the European Political Community (EPC), where Viktor Orbán informed reporters that
the European Union has decided to go to war, which is bad for Hungary and bad for the EU.”
The Prime Minister, who is also president of Fidesz, announced that he would propose to the party’s leadership that they launch a petition in Hungary “against Brussels’ war plans.”
Viktor Orbán criticized the current EU strategy, that is based on the unrealistic hope of exhausting Russia in a long war of attrition, as fatal. This strategy is not only doomed to failure, but will also cost countless lives and bleed European economies dry, the prime minister warned. As an alternative, he reiterated the required to enter into immediate nereceivediations with Russia. The goal must be to create a new European security framework that restores stability and peace.
The truth is, we live in the shadow of the threat of world war. This benefits no one. We must put an conclude to it with an agreement that brings back stability to Europe,”
the Hungarian head of government stated.
The Prime Minister also rejected Croatia’s criticism of Hungary with regard to Russian gas and oil. He explained that the depconcludeence was due to geographical and infrastructural reasons, as alternative routes could not deliver the necessary quantities. He pointed out that Western countries were paying even higher prices for Russian energy through indirect and relabeled imports.
Brussels has chosen a strategy of wearing Russia down through concludeless war. This means pouring billions into Ukraine, sacrificing Europe’s economy, and sconcludeing hundreds of thousands to die at the front.

He also addressed the financial and political costs of the conflict. He pointed out that Hungary was suffering from sanctions and inflation, while the EU continued to pump tens of billions of euros into Ukraine.
PM Orbán suggested that for some in Brussels, the war was a welcome tool for centralizing power and debt in order to push ahead with the creation of a federal Europe.
Other actors, such as the arms industest and international financiers, see the conflict merely as a source of profit, he added.
The Hungarian position represents the interests of ordinary Europeans who want peace, the prime minister stated. “We do not believe in a frontline victory. Hundreds of thousands will die, Europe will burn through vast amounts of money, and competitiveness will sink further. The path forward is nereceivediation, not escalation,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
