NVIDIA backs $125 million bet to slash AI data center energy costs

Spain’s iPronics raises €107.6 million with NVIDIA backing to scale optical networking for AI data centres

Valencia startup iPronics just locked down a €107.57 million Series B to scale optical circuit switching for AI data centers. NVIDIA joined the round, signaling serious momentum behind silicon photonics as a fix for GPU bottlenecks.

The investment pushes iPronics’ total funding past €152 million. Maverick Silicon and Light Street Capital co-led the round, with Triatomic Capital, Bosch Ventures, and the European Innovation Council Fund among the other backers.

The timing matters. AI clusters keep growing, and copper interconnects can’t keep pace with bandwidth demands. Hyperscalers now face rising power costs and tighter space constraints. Optical circuit switching, known as OCS, offers a path around those limits.

iPronics spun out of Universitat Politècnica de València in 2019. Its flagship product, iPronics ONE, fits into a standard rack and enables programmable optical links within and across server racks. Real-time reconfiguration boosts GPU utilization while cutting energy draw.

CEO Christian Dupont framed the raise as a commercial acceleration move. “With this investment, we can significantly accelerate our commercialisation, delivering the scale our customers required to drive broad adoption,” he said.

Manish Muthal of Maverick Silicon joins the board. Geoffrey Tate, an advisor to Light Street Capital, also takes a board seat, while Young Sohn of Catalight Capital signs on as an advisor.

The company has opened a Santa Clara office and plans aggressive hiring across product, deployments, and partnerships. As a result, iPronics now positions itself to compete directly in the U.S. market, where AI infrastructure spending remains heaviest.
