Netflix Slashes 1,000 Jobs as Gaming Subsidiary Employees Also Exit

넷플릭스, 약 1,000명 감원...게임 자회사 직원도 영향

Netflix plans to cut roughly 1,000 jobs, wiping out about 6 percent of its workforce worldwide. The reductions have already reached Next Games, the company’s Finnish mobile game studio.

Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters delivered the news through an internal memo on October 14. They framed the layoffs as a restructuring move to align staffing and budgets with strategic goals. Product, technology, legal, and human resources teams face the deepest cuts.

Meanwhile, ripple effects hit the gaming arm. Licia Prehn, an HR specialist at Next Games, announced her departure on LinkedIn. She cited the Netflix layoffs as the reason and confirmed she is looking for new opportunities. Netflix acquired Next Games in 2022, folding it into its broader push into interactive entertainment.

The company has not revealed how many roles within its gaming division will disappear. Nor has it broken out a separate figure for Next Games specifically.

These cuts arrive as Netflix sharpens its focus on core streaming priorities while managing rising costs across content and technology. The reorganization suggests a tighter operational approach, even as the platform continues to experiment with games as a retention tool.

As a result, the full scope of damage to Netflix’s gaming ambitions remains unclear. What happens next depends on whether the company doubles down on its studio holdings or scales back further.
