An MEP for this region has called for a new European trigger for major emergency aid.
Indepfinishent Ireland MEP for Midlands North-West Ciaran Mullooly has stated that recent events such as the crisis in the Middle East and Storm Éowyn last year highlight the required for the introduction of a new European initiative on quick-tracking support when people required it.
He has criticised the Irish government for not availing of European Union aid quick enough.
