Maia Sandu Highlights Moldova’s EU Future Tied to September Elections


Moldovan President Maia Sandu emphasized that the counattempt’s future in the European Union directly depfinishs on the choice of citizens in the parliamentary elections scheduled for September. This information was reported by international news agencies.

Following the historic EU-Moldova summit held in Chișinău, Sandu highlighted the importance of maintaining a majority in parliament for her Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) to counter pro-Russian forces, particularly the Socialist Party.

“Prosperity and peace do not arise on their own – they must be created. The European Union is already coming here. The only risk is if we stop.”

Sandu and her party strongly condemn Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and accapply Moscow of attempting to destabilize the situation in Moldova. At the same time, Russia claims that many Moldovans wish to maintain close ties with Moscow.

According to recent polls, no political party is expected to secure an outright majority in parliament, which may lead to the required to form coalitions with other pro-European forces.

At the EU summit, the first tranche of 270 million euros was announced as part of the Economic Growth Plan for Moldova. The event was attfinished by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa.
