Executives from South Korea’s securities sector have traveled to Europe to scout investment prospects in artificial intelligence, digital finance, and the space economy. The mission signals a coordinated push by the domestic financial industry to stake a claim in emerging global growth markets before they mature.
The Korea Financial Investment Association announced on Sept. 7 that a delegation called Securities NPK, short for New Portfolio Korea, will spend Sept. 6 through Sept. 12 in Germany and Luxembourg. Chairman Sungyup Hwang leads the group, which includes chief executives from 14 securities firms.
Their itinerary opens at IFA 2026 in Berlin, Europe’s flagship consumer electronics and technology fair. Attendees will examine how advanced technologies such as AI, smart home systems, robotics, and digital healthcare have moved from concept to commercial product. They will also track shifts in business models across adjacent industries.
From there, the group plans to evaluate the market readiness and scalability of on-device AI, humanoid and physical AI, and next-generation mobility platforms. The goal: identify fresh investment themes that Korean securities firms can leverage as value chains across these sectors undergo rapid transformation.
In Luxembourg, the delegation will sit down with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Trade Minister Xavier Bettel. Their talks will center on broadening bilateral cooperation in financial investment.
The schedule includes stops at the Luxembourg Space Agency, the European Space Resources Innovation Centre, and SES, a global satellite communications operator. At each location, participants will assess how space-related ventures are progressing toward commercial viability and what that means for investors.
Capital markets also feature prominently. A seminar with the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and HSBC will explore digital bond issuance and distributed ledger technology infrastructure in financial systems. A joint session with Technoport, a deep-tech startup hub, will cover Europe’s technology commercialization landscape and investment openings in the sector.
Chairman Hwang described AI, digital finance, and space as core engines of future growth. He said the trip aims to help Korea’s securities industry read the currents of global innovation and pinpoint opportunities that lie ahead.
