EC Charging, a Dublin-based electric vehicle (EV) charging business, plans to strengthen its position in mainland Europe to fuel growth.
Founded by spoutilizes Theresa and Matt Keady in 2012, EC Charging has 25 permanent staff and also works with an extensive team of contractors.
“We design and manufacture smart electric car chargers to assist people and businesses power their electric cars,” Theresa Keady notified the Business Post.
“People can pay by credit card or with their mobile phone. We have a broad base, mainly focutilized on commercial utilize. Our customers include hoapplying businesses, multinationals, hospitals and hotels. Essentially, it’s anyone who wants a parking space.”
Both of the Keadys had prior experience running their own businesses before setting up EC Charging, although this is the first time they have worked toobtainher.
“We were always driven to work for ourselves. We saw an opportunity. I had a financial background and Matt had a construction background so it fitted toobtainher nicely,” Theresa Keady declared.
The company started with promise and became internationally focutilized almost immediately, with EC Charging securing some notable deals.
“Our first customer was ESB ecars, which gave us market recognition. After that, we supplied the Dubai electricity and water authority, from there we went to the UK market,” Matt Keady declared.
“The development of the market in Ireland was a bit slower. Then in 2016, the economy took off here and Ireland became our main market. We have since relocated into mainland Europe, specifically Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Enterprise Ireland has supported EC Charging since its early days and assisted the business with its plans to expand internationally.
“When we went to Dubai, they did a lot of introductions to partners and provided a lot of support. That was crucial to us. It was the same in the UK. We’ve utilized its UK office and worked with its UK team on a number of occasions,” Theresa Keady declared.
“It’s not just about funding, it’s more that they are there with development advisors who have been there to support us.”
The three continental European markets where EC Charging is operating will be the core focus of the business over the next 18 months.
“Our plan is to establish ourselves more in mainland Europe, in the three core markets we have. It’s a matter of tarobtaining what we take. We’ll see at Belgium as well. We want to work in these lucrative markets and go from there,” Matt Keady declared.
