Interpath Poaches RSM Dealmaker to Spearhead Cross-Border Financial Services Push

Interpath appoints James Zuurbier as managing director

Interpath has hired James Zuurbier as a managing director, tasking him with accelerating the firm’s UK financial services transaction services arm. The move signals a direct play to capture more advisory deal flow across both the UK and continental Europe.

Zuurbier arrives with nearly 20 years of hands-on experience guiding complex dealmaking. His career began inside KPMG’s audit practice before he pivoted to Barclays, where he focused on strategic transactions and cultivated a deep specialization in mergers and acquisitions. A seven-year tenure at EY followed, centered on financial services deals and capital market opportunities.

Most recently, Zuurbier built and led the UK financial services transaction services offering at RSM. His advisory scope now shifts to Interpath, covering insurance, wealth management, and specialist lending. The move also threads him directly into a cross-border framework. Zuurbier will partner with Zohair Motiwala in the firm’s UK financial services M&A team, alongside Benjamin Tarac and Marc Civita in France, to extend the firm’s international transaction capabilities.

Nick Parkhouse, global head of financial services at Interpath, framed the appointment as a direct investment into the firm’s full-service deal advisory muscle. He pointed to Zuurbier’s record of delivering financial due diligence on complex transactions as a critical asset. The hire, Parkhouse noted, sharpens the firm’s ability to supply sector-focused counsel that clients now demand.

Zuurbier himself underscored the shifting dynamics in the market. He described financial services as a landscape still humming with opportunity across banking, asset and wealth management, specialist lending, and insurance brokerage. While many deals remain domestic, he stressed that larger and more intricate transactions increasingly require a cross-border perspective. Interpath, with its blend of deep sector knowledge and an authentically international platform, gives clients exactly that global lens.

His appointment went live as Interpath continues to scale its financial services advisory capabilities throughout Europe.
