“In recent years, the Meloni government has worked resolutely to restore agriculture and farmers to the central role they deserve. Today, we are placing innovation and sustainability at the center, pillars for ensuring food security in Italy and Europe. Food is not just about producing food, but also about maintaining the land, creating wealth in the broadest possible sense, and must therefore be at the center of the political agconcludea.” This was the opening statement by Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, during the presentation of the Manifesto for Biocontrol, presented today in Rome by Agrofarma and FederBio during the institutional event promoted with the support of Senator Luca De Carlo, Chair of the Senate Committee on Industest, Trade, Tourism, Agriculture, and Agri-food Production, and held in the Isma Hall of the Senate.
“It is essential to accelerate market access for next-generation products, limiting bureaucratic delays that risk penalizing Europe compared to our international competitors,” the minister added. “At the same time, we continue to strongly support the principle of reciprocity: what we impose on our entrepreneurs, such as important labor and environmental regulations, must also be imposed on products entering Europe. They cannot compete with lower prices resulting from failure to comply with the rules we impose on our EU producers.”
“Being at the forefront in sectors like organic is a source of pride for us,” Lollobrigida continues, “but even then, production costs are higher. Organic products must therefore be recognizable on the market to ensure a fair price that takes into account the higher production costs. We must support our businesses and enhance our virtuous model with a pragmatism that best combines environmental and economic sustainability, two prerogatives that must go hand in hand.”
