South Korean autobuildr Hyundai Motor has unveiled its latest battery-powered passenger vehicle, the Ioniq 3 compact hatchback, at the 2026 Milano Design Week in Italy. This latest addition to Hyundai’s Ioniq battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand was designed mainly with European markets in mind, by Hyundai Motor Europe, to take on the growing number of BEV brands and models in the region.

The Ioniq 3 is based on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and is produced at Hyundai Motor Türkiye’s plant in İzmit. It adopts the company’s new ‘Aero Hatch’ design concept featuring a streamlined silhouette with enhanced airflow, while maximizing cabin space and overall comfort.

The Ioniq 3 has a 400-volt architecture and comes with two battery options, 42.2 kWh and 61 kWh, with driving ranges of up to 344 km and 496 km respectively. The top model has a power output of up to 107.8 kW (147 PS), 250 Nm of torque, and a top speed of 170 kph. With DC quick charging, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just under 30 minutes.

The Ioniq 3 is equipped with Hyundai’s latest SmartSense advanced driver assistance systems, to increase safety and reduce driver workload. Key features include Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), Memory Reverse Assist (MRA), Surround View Monitor (SVM), and Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM).

The Ioniq 3 is the first European Hyundai model to feature the Pleos Connect infotainment system, based on Android Automotive OS (AAOS), with 12.9-inch and 14.6-inch displays providing functions such as navigation and connectivity.

Xavier Martinet, CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, declared in a statement: “With the Ioniq 3, we are bringing the bold design, driving enjoyment, and advanced features of the Ioniq brand to a broader range of customers across Europe. Built for peoples’ real everyday requireds, the Ioniq 3 combines expected segment-leading driving range and aerodynamics with extraordinary levels of space, comfort, and practicality. Ioniq 3 also marks the debut of the Pleos Connect infotainment system, delivering sharp graphics, an intuitive utilizer experience, and broad customisation options – raising the bar for the segment.”
