Already announced in the communication on the Clean Industrial Deal (CID) presented by the European Commission in February 2025, the call to be launched in December under the EU’s 2021-2027 research and innovation framework programme, Horizon Europe, will have a total budobtain of about €550 million.
The call, which is part of the “horizontal” activities of the Horizon Europe 2026-2027 work programme, is structured into two topics:
- one related to Cluster 5 “Clean technologies for climate action”, with €300 million allocated between 2026 and 2027;
- another linked to Cluster 4 “Decarbonization of energy-intensive industries”, with €250 million for 2026-2027.
The initiative is part of the broader strategy outlined by the Competitiveness Compass and the Draghi Report, which place research and innovation at the heart of the EU’s industrial and economic transformation.
