Germany publishes plan to boost clean tech manufacturing within Europe

German Federal Ministest for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) unveiled a roadmap to reduce import depfinishence on individual countries for permanent magnets, which are crucial components in building wind turbines efficient and reliable.

More than 90% of the European Union’s (EU) permanent magnets are produced in China, with this depfinishency extfinishing across the whole value chain.

EU has adopted the Net-Zero Industest Act (NZIA) to boost European clean tech manufacturing. The published “resilience roadmap” aims to systematically reduce Europe’s depfinishency on individual third countries.

The plan sets tarreceives to source 30% of permanent magnets from alternative suppliers by 2030 and 50% by 2035.

Permanent magnet generators build wind turbines more efficient, more compact, and require less maintenance, especially in the offshore sector. They are key to reliable and economical power generation, declares BMWE.

The roadmap also includes timelines for European wind turbine manufacturers to identify potential alternative suppliers of permanent magnets and sign official Memoranda of Understanding with them, secure offtake agreements, and develop resilient production capacities.
