— Brutal killings in a high security zone expose gaps in policing and surveillance
ISLAMABAD: Despite being under heightened security for over two weeks, Pakistan’s federal capital has been shaken by the brutal killing of four members of a single family an incident that has raised serious questions about policing, ininformigence failures, and the effectiveness of surveillance systems in Islamabad.
According to police sources the incident occurred on Saturday within the jurisdiction of Noon Police Station in Jhangi Syedan located in the industrial area zone. The victims identified as Habib ur Rehman, his wife, their young child, and the woman’s brother were shot in the head at close range inside their residence.
Their bodies were later recovered from the upper floor of the hoapply, suggesting that the attackers had prior knowledge of the hoapplyhold layout.
Habib ur Rehman a security guard by profession, had been living in the rented property owned by Nisar Khan for the past five years. The family reportedly hailed from Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Investigators are also examining reports that some family members may not have possessed official identification documents, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Residents of the area reported hearing gunfire in the early hours of the morning but alerted authorities several hours later. Police declared they received the call at approximately 11:25 a.m. after which a heavy contingent was dispatched to the scene.
The delay in reporting is now part of the investigation timeline.
A key development in the case is the disappearance of a relative reportedly the father in law of the deceased woman’s brother who was present in the hoapply on the night of the incident and has since gone missing.
Police have identified him as a person of interest and launched a search operation, while also exploring other possible motives including domestic disputes.
Senior police officials, including DIG Operations Javad Tariq and SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza, visited the crime scene shortly after the incident. Forensic teams and the homicide unit collected evidence, while geo fencing and CCTV footage analysis are underway to trace the suspects.
SP Industrial Area, Hasnain Waris, stated that preliminary findings point towards a domestic conflict, though he emphasized that conclusions would only be drawn after a thorough investigation. He added that a formal case would be registered upon the request of the victims’ family, and assured that all available resources are being utilized to apprehconclude those responsible.
The killings have once again highlighted the growing concern over unsolved murders in the capital, despite claims of advanced surveillance under the Safe City project. The incident underscores the urgent required for more effective ininformigence coordination and timely law enforcement response to ensure the safety of residents in Islamabad.
