A budget carrier launching in Spain will sell seats for as little as €21.50 one-way starting this December.
Fly2Galicia plans to connect Santiago de Compostela’s Rosalia de Castro airport with eight European cities. The routes span Zaragoza, Alicante, Granada, Milan, Venice, Munich, Prague, and Brussels.
The startup won’t operate its own aircraft initially. Instead, a single plane owned by an unnamed European carrier will fly the routes, according to World Tourism Forum. Leasing aircraft and crew, a practice known as wet leasing, lets new airlines avoid heavy upfront costs. Established carriers typically use this approach for seasonal demand spikes or to trial unproven routes.
Fly2Galicia has posted cabin crew job listings, though the company has not confirmed whether it will also lease flight attendants from another operator.
Bookings have opened for travel beginning 1 December. One-way fares start at €21.50, with returns adding €19. The cheapest options appear on domestic routes linking Santiago with Alicante, Zaragoza, and Granada. A sample round trip from Alicante flying 12 December and returning 14 December totals €40.50 under the Economy Go fare, which includes an 8kg cabin bag.
The airline offers four fare tiers total. Economy Plus, Economy Premium, and Business Premium add baggage allowances, better seating, or food and drink. Business Premium passengers also gain airport lounge access, ticket cancellation rights, and an empty middle seat.
Founders say the airline addresses a shortage of direct connections from Galicia to major European hubs. The timing could also benefit walkers finishing the Camino de Santiago, which ends at Santiago’s cathedral. A loyalty programme called the Fly2Galicia Miles Programme will let travellers earn points redeemable on future flights.
Neither Fly2Galicia nor Spanish airport operator Aena has responded to requests for comment.
