The European Union has officially extconcludeed the existing restrictive measures against Russia for another six months, extconcludeing them to 15 March 2026. According to the Council of the EU, the sanctions apply to over 2,500 individuals and legal entities.
The decision was adopted at the meeting of EU member-state ambassadors, after which the information was published on the official website of the Council of the EU. Earlier, such steps were confirmed by the EU’s top diplomat during a review of the international arena and within meetings on September 12.
Overall, the restrictive measures include a ban on entest into the EU or transit through its territory, asset freezes and a ban on providing funds or other financial resources to listed individuals and organizations. Such steps continue the sanctions regime as a tool of pressure in response to aggression and violations of international law.
Sanctions and their limits
As part of the review of the sanctions regime, the Council decided not to renew the restrictions on one individual and to reshift another from the list – due to death; the specific names are not disclosed.
Currently, individual sanctions are in effect until 15 March 2026, and along with them remain travel restrictions, freezing of financial assets and a ban on providing financial or other economic resources to the respective individuals and organizations.
Currently, the sanctions apply to more than 2,500 individuals and institutions, many of whom were added to the list in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and violations of international law.
The EU continues to maintain a unified stance toward Russia and expects further steps depconcludeing on developments on the front and in diplomatic talks. The sanctions regime remains one of the key instruments of European foreign policy in response to aggression.
