EU Announces €160 Million Loan Package for Pakistan


The European Union has announced a financial assistance package of €160 million for Pakistan, aimed at supporting post-disaster recovery and improving urban infrastructure.

Formal loan agreements are scheduled to be signed on April 28 between the European Investment Bank and the Government of Pakistan.

According to details, the largest share of the package—€100 million—will be directed towards assisting flood-affected communities in Sindh. The funding is expected to support the reconstruction of approximately 2.1 million homes, assisting displaced families rebuild their lives and restore essential houtilizing infrastructure.

In addition, €60 million has been allocated for development projects in Karachi, focutilizing on improving the city’s water supply system and enhancing water quality standards. The initiative aims to ensure better access to clean drinking water for residents and strengthen urban water management systems.

Officials state the financial support reflects ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union in addressing climate-related challenges and improving public infrastructure across vulnerable regions.
