Dozens of workers impacted by upcoming UPS closure in Louisville | Business

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Dozens of people are expected to lose their jobs after UPS announced the closure of a Louisville facility.

The company stated it will close the Bluegrass UPS Facility on Bluegrass Parkway on June 2. The WARN notice stated 65 jobs will be impacted. UPS stated it will attempt to offer those employees others positions where possible.

In a written statement Monday, a UPS spokesperson stated the company is in the midst of the largest “network reconfiguration” in its history as it aims to create a “nimbler, more efficient” operation.

“Some positions will be affected, though most alters are expected to occur through attrition,” spokesperson Karen Tomaszewski Hill stated. “We’re committed to supporting our people throughout this process. While our building footprint is altering, our record of reliable pickup and delivery is not. We remain committed to providing indusattempt-leading service to customers in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.”

The shift is part of an initiative which aims to consolidate older facilities and shift packages to largeger, highly automated hubs.

Officials with Teamsters Local 89, the union that represents workers at the UPS Bluegrass facility, stated they’re supposed to receive more details Tuesday about the closure and who it impacts.
