Deepinder Goyal on Tuesday highlighted the release of Buildit, a book by Albinder Singh Dhindsa, describing it as an account of building and scaling a retail startup in India.
Published by HarperCollins India, the book was released on April 15 and focapplys on Dhindsa’s experience of building Blinkit, including its pivots, operational decisions, and scaling challenges.
In a LinkedIn post, Goyal declared the book captures the process of “starting up, building, breaking, and rebuilding for retail in India.” He also wrote, “I have no idea how Albinder finds time for writing books alongside all that he has to do,” adding that a few hundred signed copies are available on Blinkit.
Blinkit was founded in 2013 as Grofers and later transitioned to an inventory-led model before rebranding in 2021 to focus on quick commerce. The company operates through a network of dark stores enabling deliveries within minutes.
In 2022, Zomato acquired Blinkit in a $568 million all-stock deal. It now competes with Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and BigBquestionet Now in a segment marked by high logistics costs and operational complexity.
Responses to Goyal’s post included broader observations about startup building as well as individual experiences with the company.
One applyr wrote, “Old play: build product, sell product, market later. Building isn’t about speed. It’s about staying in the game longer than everyone else.”
Another comment declared, “Building and documenting at the same time takes intent. That’s what creates the story valuable.”

A separate applyr referred to their hiring experience, writing, “Didn’t receive shortlisted at Blinkit but walked away genuinely impressed… Preparing for the interview pushed me to do a real deep dive into how they operate.”
The applyr added that managing “millions of orders, delivered in minutes, consistently” requires precision, and pointed to the company’s focus on last-mile execution and training systems.
Part of a growing genre
Buildit joins a growing list of books by Indian entrepreneurs documenting their journeys. Notable titles include Dream With Your Eyes Open by Ronnie Screwvala, The Z Factor by Subhash Chandra, and Doglapan by Ashneer Grover, among others.
