BMW’s European configurator for the new X5 will expand dramatically on October 8, when buyers can finally order three additional G65 variants, including two plug-in hybrids and the first fully electric version.
The move follows the initial launch of just two models, the 40 xDrive and 40d xDrive. BMW typically opens its online build tool immediately after a vehicle reveal, yet this time the rollout arrives in stages.
The 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid will start at approximately €102,800 in Germany. Meanwhile, the more aggressive M60e xDrive carries an expected starting price of around €125,000, making both versions the first X5 G65 models to cross the six-figure threshold before options.
The all-electric iX5 60 xDrive rounds out the trio with pricing that could match the M Performance hybrid at about €125,000. A cheaper iX5 50 xDrive has not been announced, though BMW may introduce one later in the luxury SUV’s lifecycle. All three newcomers feature standard all-wheel drive.
Production timing varies by powertrain. The conventionally powered inline-six models began rolling off the Spartanburg, South Carolina assembly line this month, with European deliveries set for November 28. As for the hybrids and the EV, assembly starts in December. European customers should expect first deliveries on March 6 next year.
Another M Performance variant will join later in 2027. The X5 M60 xDrive packs a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, a notable move given tightening emissions rules across Europe. That same S68 engine is expected to power the full X5 M, arriving in 2028 with potentially more than 600 horsepower.
The flagship X5 M may also gain an electric counterpart. Reports point to a quad-motor setup producing between 800 and 900 hp, which would make it the most powerful X5 M ever built. Every G65 variant rides on BMW’s CLAR platform.
Europe won’t receive one specific model: the X5 40. BMW keeps that rear-wheel-drive version exclusive to the United States, where it costs $71,250, undercutting the xDrive equivalent by $2,300.
