Allianz shuffles Europe leadership as Kroetz exits Direct for Partners role

Allianz appoints new chief executives in Europe

Philipp Kroetz will take the helm at Allianz Partners this November, moving from his current post leading Allianz Direct. The leadership shuffle follows Tomas Kunzmann’s elevation to the parent company’s board.

Allianz SE, headquartered in Munich, confirmed the transition Monday. Kroetz takes over the France-based assistance and insurance unit effective November 1. Kunzmann, meanwhile, steps into a board of management role at the German insurance giant.

As a result, two senior positions now change hands in quick succession. Laurent Floquet, who currently serves as chief operating officer at Allianz Partners, will replace Kroetz as CEO of Allianz Direct. Both appointments take effect the same day.

The moves reflect an ongoing reshuffle within Allianz’s European operations. The company has cycled several executives through its direct-to-consumer and assistance divisions over the past year. Leadership continuity remains a priority as the insurer digests rapid expansion in embedded and digital insurance channels, according to reporting by Insurance Asia.

Allianz Direct operates as the group’s digital-first insurer across multiple European markets. Allianz Partners handles travel insurance, roadside assistance, and other specialized coverage lines. Kroetz, who previously held roles in strategy and digital transformation, steered Allianz Direct through a period of aggressive growth.

The appointments position both units for their next phase. Allianz will watch whether Floquet maintains momentum at Direct while Kroetz scales Partners’ global footprint.
