The project has turned industrial land into a growing environmental and economic asset, supporting regional regeneration and long-term sustainable development. Authorities state the interconnected waterways will boost tourism, create jobs and displaycase how former industrial regions can adapt to a post-coal future.

The Lusatian Lakeland now spans around 14,000 hectares, with new connections between lakes improving tourism and recreation. The final lake, Sedlitz, has opened for swimming and boating, completing decades of work to repurpose mining sites.
