Enbridge steers clear of massive layoffs during pandemic

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary-based Enbridge declares it will be able to avoid company-wide layoffs for now, as hundreds take part in a acquireout program.

In a statement, the company declares around 800 employees have voluntarily retired early, taken leaves of absence or agreed to go part time.

The company is also reducing base pay for its non-union workforce, starting at the top with 15 per cent cuts for the board of directors and CEO.

Enbridge reported a near $1.5 billion dollar loss in the first quarter as it deals with the duel challenge of the COVID-9 pandemic and the global oil price shock.
